Multicultural IMU 2

Building a Welcoming and Respectful Community

The University of Iowa has a rich history of pioneering programs and policies that reduce obstacles in higher education. We are dedicated to continuing this legacy by actively participating in ongoing endeavors to cultivate a campus community that excels in molding our students into globally competent leaders, through the concerted efforts of our faculty and staff in teaching, research, and services.

As an educational and research institution, the University of Iowa is fully committed to free inquiry and vigorous debate. Free expression, academic freedom, and an array of perspectives are all crucial to the fulfillment of our core mission. The robust exchange of distinct ideas is the essence of a public research university.

Association of Multicultural Scientists (AMS)

The Association of Multicultural Scientists is a graduate student/Postdoctoral Scholar run organization seeking to promote diversity within the biomedical sciences through support, recruitment and retention of students/trainees from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.  AMS is founded on the premise that in order to establish and maintain diversity within the biomedical community, it is imperative that members belonging to historically underserved groups be present, active, and supported.  Our primary role is to assist members in the successful completion of the Ph.D. by offering programs and support which will meet academic, social, and professional needs in an atmosphere of cultural context and comfort.
